Materials Needed:

2. Crochet hook (size recommended on yarn label)

Step 1: Choose Your Yarn and Hook

You’d commonly start  with around 60-70 chains for an average adult size hat when making a hat from bottom to top.

Step 3: Join in the Round

Once you have your chain, join it into a circle by slip stitching into the first chain. This forms the foundation ring for your hat.

Step 4: Crochet the Base Rounds

Choose a basic stitch for the body of your hat. A single crochet or half double crochet will work really well for beginners. The double crochet stitch is less common and a little more involved.

Crochet evenly around the circle, working into each chain. This will establish the height and overall size of your hat.
